Grant Sports Organisation Limited is proud to announce a historic partnership with Red Sea Football Club to host the first ever Eritrean football tournament in the United Kingdom, named The Awate Unity Cup. This landmark celebration of Eritrean unity, heritage, and football excellence will take place on Saturday, 16th August 2025, at the David Ross Sports Village, University of Nottingham.
The tournament will take place in Nottingham, bringing together Eritrean teams and supporters from across the UK and Europe for a weekend of competitive football, cultural celebration, and community empowerment.
“We are honoured to collaborate with Red Sea FC to create this historic event. The Awate Unity Cup is more than a tournament — it’s a tribute to Eritrean identity and an opportunity to foster unity and pride through football,” said the CEO OF Grant Sports.
Named after Hamid Idris Awate, a symbol of Eritrean resilience and unity, the Awate Unity Cup will feature:
Men’s & youth football competition
Cultural performances and community exhibitions
Family-friendly activities and Eritrean cuisine stalls
Awards and recognitions for talent, leadership, and sportsmanship
“This is a proud moment for the Eritrean community in the UK. Through football, we hope to bring our people together, strengthen our ties, and showcase our culture to the wider British public,” said a representative from Red Sea FC.
🌍 A Celebration of Culture and Community
This partnership aligns with Grant Sports’ wider mission to promote inclusion and diversity in grassroots football by spotlighting underrepresented communities through purposeful sporting events. Following successful initiatives such as the Robin Hood Cup, the Awate Unity Cup marks another important step in using sport to build bridges, celebrate culture, and create lasting impact.
